Dreambert and Bedsmith, two beings of the Pi’illo species, wake up one morning with no memory of who they are, where they are, or how they came to be. They find themselves in a strange house in a strange town, and they feel lost and confused. Just as the panic begins, a strange man named Wonky appears, claiming to be their father. He assumes that they must have passed out while watching television last night, but before he can explain any further, the situation gets even stranger. A being named Starlow of the Star Sprite species arrives, claiming to be their friend. He says that they had plans to spend some time together, but Dreambert and Bedsmith do not remember him or any other such plans. Reluctantly, they follow Starlow outside, unsure of their surroundings. They wander around the town, appearing as if they do not recognize their surroundings or Starlow. Despite their confusion, Starlow continues to communicate with them as if they have been friends for a long time. As he shows them around, Starlow patiently explains their supposed friendship and their names, trying to calm them down. However, Dreambert and Bedsmith are still confused and unable to understand their past or their connection to Starlow. As the day progresses, Starlow becomes increasingly concerned, initially thinking that they are just pretending to forget. But as their strange behavior continues, he begins to worry that there is something seriously wrong with their memories. By the end of the day, Starlow’s uncertainty grows, and he wonders if there is something else behind their forgetfulness. Dreambert and Bedsmith return to the house where they first woke up, and Wonky, who still claims to be their father, offers them an unfamiliar bed. Too tired and confused to protest, they go to bed for the night. When they fall asleep, their minds are filled with questions about their identities, their pasts, and the reason for their sudden amnesia. The mystery of their lost memories remains unanswered as they drift into a restless sleep, uncertain about the future.
